    Abstract:

Flavonoid Omethyltransferase (FOMT) belongs to the methyltransferase family of transferase superfamily, which catalyses transferring the methyl group from SadenosylLmethionine (SAM) to hydroxyl group of flavonoid.Methylation is one of the most important modifications to the ring structure and/or acyclic side of flavonoid.Omethylation of flavonoid alters the chemical reactivity of their phenolic hydroxyl groups and enhances their lipophilicity, which increases their intracellular compartmentation as well as their antimicrobial activities. This paper reviewed the recent progress of plant Omethyltransferase in physiological/biochemical metabolisms, classification, and structure of domains of enzymes, biological function, gene cloning and expressional regulation in order to provide additional insights for further study.
