    Abstract:

There are more than 130 types of terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs) in medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus (L.) G.Don.In this review, the upstream and downstream of the biosynthesis of these alkaloids in C.roseus, and related studies were summarized.During upstream pathway, tryptamine which came from indole biosynthetic pathway and secologanin which came from monoterpenoid pathway were synthesized into 3α(S)-Strictosidine which is the common precurors of different TIAs by the corresponding enzymatic catalysis. Then various TIAs were found from 3α(S)-Strictosidine by enzymes during downstream process. The TIAs biosynthetic pathway in C.roseus were outlined in the article in order to provide useful information for the researchers who are interested in terpenoid indole alkaloids biosynthetic pathway and metabolic regulation.
